Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium

Dr. Zainab Zomlot

Dr. Zainab Zomlot is the leader of the eMWRE project. She holds a PhD in Hydrological Engineering from Vrije University Brussels, Belgium. Her research interests include Groundwater recharge, Water Resource Management, and eLearning in higher education.


Prof. Ann van Griensven

Prof. Ann van Griensven a bio-engineer, obtained her PhD at the Free University of Brussels. She is currently Associate Professor of hydrology and water quality in the chair group of hydrology and water resources at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education and head of the department of hydrology and hydraulic engineering of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She has 15 years of research experience in the field of water quality and hydrological modelling, uncertainty analysis of models and optimisation algorithms, her role in the eMWRE project is a senior expert in water resources engineering.

Dr. Elga Salvatore

Dr. Elga Salvadore holds a master degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Genova in Italy and a PhD degree in the field of hydrological modelling from the Free University of  Brussels (VUB) in Belgium. She is currently a lecturer at IHE-Delft Institute for Water Education (Netherlands) in Remote Sensing and water accounting, and a guest professor at the VUB in Belgium  (python programming and hydrological modelling). With her current research she aims at bridging the gap between Remote Sensing technology and policy making in the field of water resources  management and water accounting. In the eMWRE project, she leads of the Quality Plan work package and she will contribute to the development of eLearning courses in her field of expertise.


Carel W. H. Keuls

Carel has a background in Social Sciences (Pedagogics) and Knowledge Management. He has previous experience developing and supporting collaborative knowledge networks and the support of lifelong learning processes for water professionals. His current focus is on quality, information and knowledge management processes within organisations, as well as on strengthening didactical skill development from a constructivist, active learning approach. In recent years he led the institutional audit as part of the institute’s accreditation processes. Carel has his home base at IHE’s Education Bureau. He will contribute to the development of Quality Plan work package.



Lauren Zielinski

Lauren Zielinski holds a BSc in Earth and Environmental Engineering and an MSc in Ecohydrology. Her current focus is on the management and implementation of international water projects and capacity development around integrated water resources management. Previously, she was a project coordinator for the Hydrology and Water Resources Department at IHE Delft, implementing environmental flow and water allocation projects in East and West Africa. She currently is a project assistant in the Land and Water Management Department at IHE Delft, contributing to projects related to water accounting and water productivity. In the eMWRE, she will be supporting dissemination and project management activities.

Eummena, Belgium
Dr. Jad Najjar

Dr. Jad Najjar, Eummena’s managing director, holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven - K.U. Leuven (Belgium) in Educational Technologies (EdTech), standards and user experience. He is Eummena’s senior advisor in EU and international projects around Educational Technologies. Jad is involved in the management of all our Moodle-related projects, ensuring that quality, user experience and society impact standards for our projects are met. His long experience in similar projects will ensure that the proposed project stays on track, m aking sure that the outcomes adhere to the requirements set forth in the related call documents.



Dr. Tasos Koutoumanos

Tasos, Eummena’s chief technologist, holds a PhD in Software Engineering and Advanced Learning Technologies from the National Technical University of Athens (Greece). His development and research is focused on the field of Learning Technologies and specifically on the use of new information and communication technologies and media for the design and implementation of learning environments. Dr. Koutoumanos is leading Eummena’s technical team in all Moodle-related projects, and will be serving as the lead technologist in this project.


Dr. Nikos Palavitsinis
Nikos holds a PhD degree in Information Science and Quality of Metadata from Alcala University, Spain. He has been working in the wider field of e-Learning since 2005. He is a data expert in education and a capable project manager, he has long expertise in business development techniques and models. Nikos has a long experience of managing the development of Moodle solutions in various projects in distinct domains such as education, research, environment, libraries, etc. He is managing various Moodle projects for Eummena in terms of user involvement and course management. In this project, he will be involved in user requirements as well as the documentation on the use of the proposed platform.

Prof. Dr. Samir. Afifi
Obtained Ph.D. from Kassel University, Germany on Environmental Chemistry. Main Field of research concentrate on Integrated Resources management. Has long experience in fundraising, projects managing and coordination with the Mediterranean and EU countries. He is a member of Management and Quality Assurance Committees and contributed on Development and Accreditation of the eMWRE.

Prof. Younis Yunes K. Mogheir| Associate Professor, Water Resources & Environmental. E-Mail : ymogheir@iugaza.edu.ps.  Over 16 years of academic experience including, research, development and teaching at IUG University and University of Palestine. Dr. Mogheir is a contributor to advances in water resource management , groundwater hydrology, groundwater quality modeling and monitoring, treated waste water reuse planning and management of construction and infrastructure projects, wastewater systems suitable for use in Palestine and decision making techniques.


Al-Quds University
Ass. Prof. Dr. Jawad Hasan
Dr. Jawad Hasan Shoqeir is the director of Soil and Hydrology Research, working at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Al-Quds University, Palestine. Dr. Shoqeir interests are focused in the field of integrated resources management (IRM), groundwater quality, watershed hydrology. He has worked extensively on soils and water quality issues as well as he is enrolled in ILTER. He has worked extensively on Wadi Nar/Kidron master plan and Yarqon/Auja master plan were water management issue is a main conflict issue between riparian’s. Dr. Shoqeir teaching several courses for graduates and postgraduates about water resources management and cross conflict issues among riparian countries. Dr. Shoqeir projects are related to understanding and estimating water quality, water budget in the Dead Sea Basin, he is interested in the impact of brine water and wastewater mixing with the available freshwater along Graben fault.




Mutah University, Jordan
Dr . Esraa Tarawneh
Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Mutah University. She has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a Master’s in Water and Environmental Engineering, both from Mutah University and PhD in Water and Environmental Engineering from the University of Liverpool. Her MSc and PhD thesis focused on pressing water and environmental issues in Jordan. She is the eMWRE coordinator at Mutah University
ESRAA RADI TARAWNEH

Ass. Prof. Dr. Zuhier Tawfiq
Dr. Alakayleh is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Mutah University in Jordan. He earned his PhD degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University and his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Jordan. His research interests focus on water resources engineering, groundwater hydraulics and hydrology, and numerical simulation of groundwater flow and contaminant transport.


University of Jordan, Jordan

Dr. Abu Hajar 
Dr. Abu Hajar is a Civil Engineering Assistant Professor at the University of Jordan. He earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Ohio University and his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Jordan. Dr. Abu Hajar has a solid technical and practical background in various civil and environmental engineering fields such as water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, storm water best management practices, renewable and sustainable energy, sustainable development, green growth, and engineering statistical modeling and computations. Dr. Abu Hajar’s current research interests include solid waste management, sustainable development in the Jordanian priority sectors, sustainability in construction, statistical modeling in engineering, and water resources management. Dr. Abu Hajar is eMWRE coordinator at the University of Jordan.


Prof. Al-Weshah 
Prof. Al-Weshah is a professor of Civil Engineering and the Dean of Scientific Research at the University of Jordan, and an accredited Senior Consultant in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Hydrology and Water Resources from the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign, and his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Jordan. Prof. Al-Weshah has led and managed multi-million dollar international, regional and national projects in natural resources management and water resources in the Middle East and North Africa including major water engineering projects, studies on integrated water resources management (IWRM), cooperative research between south-south and south-north institutions, and institutional and human resources capacity building. Prof. Al-Weshah’s current research interests include engineering analysis and design of major water and hydrology infrastructures projects, water governance issues, integrated water resources management in arid regions, climate change risk and adaptation management in water resources, water policy and institutional reform, stakeholder involvement, public private partnership, theoretical and experimental hydrology, groundwater protection and water use ethics.


Dr. Khaldoun M. Shatanawi 
Dr. Shatanawi is a Civil Engineering Associate Professor at the University of Jordan and is the director of the Water, Energy and Environment Center. He earned his Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Hydraulics and Hydrology from Clemson University and his B.Sc. degree from the University of Jordan. Dr. Shatanawi has more than 18 years of experience in hydraulics and hydrological engineering and a successful track record in project management, stakeholder relations, watershed modeling, and climate change and environmental studies. His current research interests include water resources management, hydrology of arid land, climate change in arid land, and stormwater and drinking water network management.


Dr. Ghada Kassab 
Dr. Kassab is a Civil Engineering Assistant Professor at the University of Jordan. She received her Ph.D degree in Environmental Engineering from Wageningen University-The Netherlands. During the past five years, Dr. Kassab has been a core investigator and coordinator in research programs related to decentralized sanitation, wastewater agricultural use, sludge management and anaerobic co-digestion of food wastes with sewage sludge. Her current research interests include the low cost wastewater treatment technologies, anaerobic digestion and bio-energy recovery.
